25 Years Summer Camp Programs

Finding Your Best Self

Summer Enrichment Camp 2017
"Finding Your Best Self"
June 5 - June 30, 2017

Each summer, Capitol School of Austin offers fun and enriching speech therapy-based summer learning experiences that we call 'Summer Camp' for children identified as having speech, language, or learning differences. This summer, we are offering a 4-week summer enrichment program for children ages 2 years old through 3rd grade. Because of high demand for camp enrollment, part-time spots are not available.

2017 summer camp registration is now closed. Please contact the office to receive information on the 2018 camp, which will be available in January 2018.

Handwriting Camps 2017

Does your child have a difficult time with writing? Is his/her handwriting difficult to read? If so, Capitol School of Austin is offering two summer handwriting camps led by our licensed Occupational Therapists.

These low-ratio camps use a fun, multi-sensory approach to improve skills involved in your child’s handwriting, including: core stability, ocular motor control, fine motor control, letter formation, elimination of common errors, and self-assessment/self-correction. Please contact us with questions or to register your child!

Please contact the office at 512-467-7006 to request a Handwriting Camp Registration packet.

1. I'm Ready to Write
A small group, OT-led writing readiness class for 4 & 5 year-olds who will be entering pre-school or kindergarten in the fall. Develops readiness in motor and perceptual skills that serve as the foundation for handwriting. Activities focus on body and spatial awareness with multi-sensory activities for learning shapes, letters and numbers while developing fine motor skills needed for pencil use.

2. I Can Write
For children who have completed kindergarten or 1st grade and need extra practice with writing skills. Emphasis is on a multi-sensory approach for learning letter and number formation, development of fine motor skills for pencil use and good posture habits as a foundation for writing efficiency. Activities include review of upper case letters, lower case letters and numbers to reinforce proper formation, placement and organization while reducing reversals. This small group, OT-led class is appropriate for children from 5 - 7 years old or based on handwriting skill level.

Parent Comments about Camp

“In his first week of summer camp at Capitol School, Chris produced more artwork than he had in two years of preschool. He was starting to participate in class! We were thrilled, and we signed him up for the school year with much relief. Capitol School’s teachers appreciate our son for who he is, and we appreciate them. Their experience and insight has made all the difference."

We enjoyed camp because it was a great introduction to the school for my child who was enrolled for the fall. The therapists worked on skills that helped to prepare my child.”

“I thought that it was a positive experience for Jacob. What I liked the most was that there was lots of learning disguised as fun.”

“Summer camp was so great. I liked the camp because it created a new social environment for my son. He enjoyed meeting new people. It was a fun and structured program.”
